In your introduction, make contact with the reader and be curious about your topic
First of all, your introduction is the opening of “your game”. The curtain opens, the viewer, meaning the reader, is stimulated to learn more about your research project. An introduction must therefore create a reading motivation! But how is that to be done? The introduction should and should contact the reader. This succeeds if you manage to create current references and to outline your question in this context. In this way, you have already substantiated your choice of topic in the introduction.
How should you proceed with the introduction to your bachelor thesis?
In your introduction you should present the following points of your Bachelor thesis:
- a) Starting situation at the beginning of your Bachelor thesis
In an introduction, first information about the topic of the topic (serving as an appetizer and encouraging you to learn more) is included. It makes sense to give an overview of the structure of your bachelor thesis in the introduction – so the reader can follow you better. The introduction also gives you the opportunity to explain how your question is incorporated into the current state of research, which research direction you are referring to, which you disagree and why.
- b) Problem description
The introduction must narrow down your topic (and justify that limitation) and clarify and substantiate your interest in cognition.
- c) The goal of your bachelor thesis
Describe also the goal of your research project. What do you want to find out in the end and why?
- d) Method and approach to your topic
Your introduction sets out and justifies your method and approach.
Why it makes sense to bother with the introduction for the bachelor thesis
Note: Your introduction is the poster child for your bachelor thesis! You describe your intention, your way of working and the current state of research. They arouse the interest of your readers – and thus of your professor.
Therefore, your introduction should also be understood as an advertisement for your bachelor thesis and should provide an incentive to read on. A bachelor thesis, which makes an effort with your introduction, gets an advance of trust, on which it can build up. Your little “extra work”, which you have with your introduction, will certainly be reflected in the evaluation of your bachelor thesis.
Your introduction is the guide to better understanding your bachelor thesis
The expectations that you arouse in your introduction to the reader should not disappoint you, otherwise your recipient will feel deceived. In addition, your introduction is a guide to better understanding the structure of your bachelor thesis. It should also prove useful in this regard. Therefore, it is advisable not to want to finalize it at the beginning.
You have two options: Start with the introduction, if the main part of your bachelor thesis is on paper. This will allow you to better assess what modes of work you have actually used, which hypotheses have turned out to be true, and which ones you have been able to refute. You know the final structure of your bachelor thesis and your sources. However, if you are one of those students who prefer to write from A to Z, who would like to have a preliminary plan written down to them, then you should start with a first version of your introduction, which you will later have to revise and modify.
Your introduction clearly shows the reader what the center of your bachelor thesis will be. This is essential because the reader will rightly expect you to illuminate this center point, whereas the periphery in your introduction is clearly delineated as an area in which you can afford some fuzziness.
Understand your introduction quite well as the log book of your bachelor thesis, on which the reader will orientate, so as not to lose track during storm and fog. A good introduction takes on this task and strives for an appealing, clear language.
